Created in 2017 out of 316 marine-grade stainless steel, as a larger reimagining of Stephen's previous work, 'Letter from the Wilderness'.

From an Exhibition called 'The Road Less Taken', inspired by a poem of the same name by Robert Frost.
This was created from 316 Marine-Grade Stainless Steel, attached to a basalt-base.

This piece was constructed by Stephen Coburn and was inspired by the Joni Mitchell's song by the same name. The song's second verse says "they took all the trees and put them in a tree museum, and charged everyone a dollar and a half just to see 'em". Inspired by this environmental message, Stephen decided to create a tree for this tree museum. After entering the piece into Dungog Common's 'Sculpture on the Farm' competition, where it won the Acquisitive Prize.
Its permanent home is in the world's greatest tree museum-Dungog Common.

An alternate version of 'Bungaree' constructed by Stephen Coburn. When Stephen first moved to George's Heights, he discovered that it used to be called 'Bungaree's Farm'-Named after the First Indigenous person known to have understood English.
Made from mild steel, painted to look like oxidised copper.

This piece was created by Stephen Coburn, designed around the concept of the 'mobius strip', a symbol of infinity. Stephen first discovered the shape at the age of ten when his friend asked him if he could draw a line on a strip of paper on both sides without lifting it from the paper. His friend flipped the paper to create a mobius strip, and proceeded to draw a line on both sides without lifting it from the table. Ever since, Stephen has been intrigued by the shape, and was initially building it for a client before deciding to build it for himself anyway. Having constructed several of these pieces, it is recognised as his most popular statue.
This piece is now in a private collection.

This piece was constructed by Stephen Coburn as a commission for the entrance to a house designed purely out of circular architecture. This piece was designed to sit slightly off of the wall it is mounted on in order to project its shadow onto the wall behind.

This piece was created by Stephen Coburn, inspired by the Wollombi brook that borders his property. In the language of the Indigenous Australians of the region, 'Wollombi' translates to 'meeting of the rivers.'

Created by Stephen Coburn. This piece was originally based on a sketch Stephen made that he noticed happened to look like the form of a pregnant, reclining woman. The sculpture is an abstracted form of a pregnant woman, likening her power to the strength of the sea.
Made from polished 316 marine-grade stainless steel, polished to a mirror finish.

2000mmx8000mmx1200mm

Stephen Coburn and Robert Dujin collaborated on a series of small fish habitats for the Sydney Institute of Marine Biology (SIMS). The habitats were placed on concrete bases and then put them under the sea around the Opera House to promote the biodiversity of smaller sea creatures within Sydney Harbour. After a few years, it was discovered that a colony of seahorses were living inside these small habitats. Stephen then made a drawing of a seahorse, and liked the skeletal design of the animal so much that he constructed several seahorses of various sizes out of 316 marine grade steel.

Created by Stephen Coburn after a trip in a submarine off the coast of Hawaii, where he saw an old ferry the government had sunk there for fish to live in. He came back to Australia and produced an on-land coral reef with a 'sunken' ute. The piece won the 'Australian Street Art Award', usually awarded for an outback tourist attraction which he won three years in a row as more utes got added to the piece.

This piece was constructed by Stephen Coburn as an homage to the belief by the Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle, that the world existed on the back of a giant sea turtle-a belief that also appears in many Indigenous Australian beliefs as well.

Created by Stephen Coburn from corten steel. This piece was created for Sculpture in the Vineyards 2007. The work symbolises a flame erupting from the earth-representing the Australian wildfires, and how the bush bounces back after these catastrophic events.

Created by Stephen Coburn, this work depicts a group of Bogong moths whose population numbers have decreased dramatically over the years, and are currently on the endangered species list. The moths used to be a stable diet for the Indigenous peoples of Australia. These moths are available for purchase at Coburn Fine Art in Mosman.

Created by Stephen Coburn. Designed to reflect the shape of a motorcycle helmet, this piece was created to represent curving and interconnecting roads. Designed to also depict a brain, it was built to be displayed at Sculpture in the Vineyards 2023 as a warning to motorcyclists to slow down as they drove to and from Wollombi. It was wrought out of corten steel.
Currently for sale, located at Winmark Winery.

Made by Stephen Coburn from corten steel. This was created as a combination of two people, a couple. If they have a fight, you can split them up into two seperate, flat pieces. The piece only becomes three-dimensional when you combine the auras of two into one.

This is a photo taken from Stephen Coburn's 'Birds of the Brook' Exhibition at the Wollombi Fireshed Gallery. This exhibition featured many of his own paintings and sculptures.
Many items were sold, and some are located in the artist's own collection.

Created by Stephen Coburn from stainless steel and painted with moveable tails. Stephen created these as there are many on his own property-and as custodian of his own land and the many creatures on it, he felt the need to represent them in his own way. These birds are known as the 'gossips' to local indigenous communities, to the point that the sight of a Willy Wagtail meant to them that you shouldn't share any secrets for fear of the birds letting the secret out.

Created by Stephen Coburn. Each of these perpendicular maquettes are made of two different shapes that are then centrally placed together at a ninety degree angle. Made from Stainless steel cutouts, these pieces are designed to have a groove at their centre so that they may be slotted together to create a three-dimensional sculpture. Painted various colours with Caduco paint.
Many have been sold to various galleries, and can be purchased at Coburn Fine Art, Mosman.

Size: Each are small desk sculptures of varying sizes, but typically 200mmx120mmx120mm, each vary slightly.

Gallery exhibition produced by Stephen Coburn at the Fireshed Gallery, Wollombi.
This exhibition featured eighteen different works created by Stephen, including nine paintings, and nine sculptures, and ran for fifteen days.

Painted by Stephen Coburn. This painting was a study of the view from Stephen Coburn's deck on his Wollombi Property between the two rivers.

Created by Stephen Coburn, this work on canvas that was done from a drawing of Wollombi Valley. This became a somewhat prophetic image, because a few years later, Stephen would purchase a place that sits between the two Wollombi brooks (North and South) close to the point where they meet.

Created by Stephen Coburn from mild steel, this piece was his first Casuarina nut, and was exhibited at Sculpture at Hunter's Hill. Stephen was walking along a beach in Tasmania, and spotted the intriguing shape of a Casuarina nut. He was then inspired to create his own. Since this first sculpture, Stephen has been commissioned to make a number of varying Casuarina nuts.

Constructed by Stephen Coburn. Originally, Stephen constructed this piece as a decorative, cubist piece. He had an old violin in the studio, and once it was cut up he discovered it had been made by an Italian luthier in the year 1564.
Stephen put it in an art auction at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where it was purchased and then donated to the Conservatorium by Margaret Ollie.

Constructed by Stephen Coburn. When Stephen first moved to George's Heights, he discovered that it used to be called 'Bungaree's Farm'. Named after the First Indigenous person known to have understood English, Bungaree was given the area of land as a farm. Stephen felt as though the spirit of Bungaree was leading him to the location, and so he constructed this piece.
Made from mild steel, painted and given a red wax finish.
Currently located in 'Collection of the Artists'.

Constructed by Stephen Coburn as the first large sculpture he had ever made, this piece was created for the 2006 'Sculpture in the Vineyards'. He then exhibited it in 'Sculpture by the Sea' where it was sold. This sculpture was built from mild steel.

Constructed by Stephen Coburn and made to represent one of his father's paintings 'Temple' with the purpose of showing his father that his paintings would look quite interesting when translated into three dimensions. When John Coburn saw it, he said "That's your work, not my work. As the shapes in my work are not connected, and the space around the shapes is part of my work."
Built from mild steel, painted black and coated with a green wax to provide a verdigris look to the piece.
